The Memorial Day holiday is an opportunity for many families and groups to take a vacation or just relax over an extended weekend.  Many people often visit the Nantahala River and take rafting trips down the 8 mile waterway which is perfect for families and whitewater enthusiasts alike. Rafters may choose from outfitters like Brookside Campground and Rafting (brooksiderafting.com or 1-800-848-RAFT), which provide transportation to and from the river, offer guided whitewater trips, rent campsites, and give customers a more personal rafting experience while in the Nantahala Gorge.

Rafters can use the two hour trip to soak in the beauty of the Nanatahala National Forest and the river offers various sections of fast water and slow water.  Any experience level is welcome in the Nantahala River, as many novices cut their whitewater teeth on our river and experienced kayakers use the Class 3 plus rapids to hone their skills or perform tricks for spectators that line the Falls Area.

There are opportunities for visitors to stay the weekend or just spend the day in the Nantahala Gorge, as the area offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, dining opportunities, and attractions, like the Nantahala zipline tours.

Make your plans to visit the Nantahala River this weekend or at least plan for a visit in the summer.  The hot months of June and July can be combatted by the cool mountain air and refreshing waters of the Nantahala River.

We hope to see you soon!
