Winter Weather Coming to the Mountains of North Carolina and Virginia?
The weekend of December 5th and 6th could bring winter weather to the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. There is a 90% chance of precipitation in most areas of the mountain region and temperatures are expected to get very close to freezing. It is likely that the precipitation will be in the form of rain during the day but do not be surprised to see snowfall during the nights and evenings in the mountains.
Several ski resorts are opening this weekend in the southern mountain region and natural snow will only help the cause. There has been an excessive amount of rainfall in much of the region over the fall months so a snowstorm is not going to help the fishing, mountain biking or hiking trails. In an area that was once concerned with draught conditions there are now concerns about getting too much rain in too short of a period of time. Many rivers have been releasing water to levels that have not been seen in years.
If you plan on visiting the mountains of North Carolina or Virginia this weekend make sure to check the forecast. It might be a good idea to bring along some warm clothes and ski equipment as winter weather is a possibility. Many ski resorts in the region have predicted this to be one of the longest ski seasons in almost a decade so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity.
